Two Exciting Updates for the Byblios Community!

The Byblios Project is always looking for ways to foster inclusion, sustainability, and innovation within libraries. Today, we’re excited to share two important updates that align with our mission!

1. Contribute to the Future of Green Libraries!
Sustainability is becoming an essential value in library management. The Environment, Sustainability, and Libraries Section of IFLA is currently developing guidelines for creating green and sustainable libraries. This is a great opportunity to contribute your ideas and help shape the future of environmentally conscious library spaces.

A draft of the Green Library Guidelines is available here.
You can submit your suggestions to petra.hauke@hu-berlin.de or nipun@um.edu.mo by 9 March 2025.

2. School Libraries in Portugal: Spaces for Enjoyment and Inclusion!
In Portugal, the School Library Network is reinforcing the importance of libraries as dynamic, inspiring, and inclusive spaces that encourage reading, creativity, and critical thinking.

School libraries provide students with opportunities to embark on literary adventures πŸš€, meet unforgettable characters, and explore new worlds. To foster this enjoyment, they organize engaging activities such as:
πŸŽ™οΈ Reading sessions
🀝 Book clubs
🎬 Dramatizations
✨ Meetings with writers
πŸ’¬ Debates on relevant topics

These moments create emotional connections with books, forming critical and passionate readers. School libraries also serve as spaces of inclusion and knowledge-sharing, offering access to physical and digital resources that help students research, analyze, and interpret information.

Investing in school libraries means investing in the future of a more informed, critical, and engaged society!

Stay tuned for more updates, and let’s keep working together to make libraries more sustainable, inclusive, and inspiring!
